Dart Foundation Commemorates Highfields' 50th Anniversary with Challenge Grant
by Claudia Deschaine
Highfields is a human service agency headquartered in Onondaga, Michigan providing opportunities for at-risk children and families through counseling, residential care and education programs. Highfields was founded in 1962 by group of Lansing area court officials, citizens, business people and community leaders as a residential center for troubled boys. As Highfields' staff worked with boys who came from abusive homes and environments, they recognized the importance of helping families earlier, before a young person's problems became so severe that he or she needed to be taken out the home. Through the years Highfields expanded to add outreach and in-home counseling services for children and families.

Highfields celebrates 50 years of "nurturing children, strengthening families and transforming communities."
The Dart Foundation has supported the work of Highfields for several decades. In August 2012, the foundation issued a $50,000 challenge grant in recognition of Highfields' 50th anniversary. This grant is designated for technology upgrades and campus safety improvements. Highfields will match the $50,000 challenge grant with matching funds from other donors. The Dart Foundation congratulates Highfields on its 50 years of service to the community. |
